Pivot Post

The Original Cross-Fencing Solution for Center Pivot Irrigation

Cross-Fencing Made Possible Under Your Pivot System

The Pivot Post by Pivotal Fencing Systems is the heart of the Pivotal Fencing System™ - a simple yet effective solution to one of the most frustrating challenges in livestock and forage management: how to cross-fence under a center pivot sprinkler without constantly adjusting or rebuilding fence lines.

The Pivot Post is a specially engineered fiberglass post with a spring-loaded cast aluminum base that allows electric fencing to flex under the weight and movement of your sprinkler system and then snap right back into place. With this system, producers can divide circular pivot fields into grazing paddocks with confidence, knowing their fence will hold strong against livestock and automatically rebound after the pivot rolls over it.

Built tough for rough terrain and designed for ease of use, the Pivot Post enables efficient, multi-use pasture and crop management without interruption.

Built to Perform. Designed to Flex.

  • Durable Construction: The Pivot Post is made from an oil-tempered spring, a full 7/8" fiberglass rod, and a cast aluminum base — built to last and withstand heavy use.
  • No Gate Needed: Electric wire is attached using cotter pins, and the pivot simply rolls over the fence without requiring manual opening or adjustment.
  • Smart Placement: Posts are positioned just outside the sprinkler wheel track, allowing the tire to depress the wire, bend the post, and roll over it effortlessly.
  • Only One Per Tower: Each sprinkler tower requires just one Pivot Post. A standard post is used between towers.
  • Works in Deep Wheel Tracks: For especially deep tracks, simply lower the wire to the bottom hole in the fiberglass rod to ensure contact with the tire.

Key Benefits:

  • Adaptable to Rough Terrain: Proven to perform in uneven ground, native pasture, and dry land forage areas.
  • High Tensile Wire Recommended: Use 12½ gauge smooth wire for best results. Barbed wire is not compatible.
  • Prevents Wire Hangups: Wire diverters mount easily to your sprinkler tower, keeping the electric wire free from the center drive gearbox and other hazards.
  • Maintains Tension Automatically: Spring and ratchet assemblies keep wire tight and secure - no sagging, stretching, or breakage.
  • Effective Livestock Control: The system creates a mental barrier that keeps cattle in place, even as the sprinkler crosses the fence.
  • No Electrical Grounding Issues: Designed to resist grounding when the sprinkler crosses the wire - electric current continues to function as expected.

The Pivotal Fencing System Advantage:

With Pivot Post, producers can finally make full use of their irrigated circle, rotating grazing cells without compromising crops, watering schedules, or fence integrity. The system is ideal for regenerative practices and adaptable to new grazing plans. Backed by real-world success and rugged durability, the Pivot Post is a smart investment for any operation running livestock under pivot irrigation.

The Pivot Post is backed by a 45-Day Satisfaction Guarantee and a 1-Year Manufacturer’s Warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions About  Pivot Post

How does the Pivot Post work?
The Pivot Post is mounted to a steel t-post and fitted with an aluminum base and spring-loaded fiberglass rod. Electric fence wire is attached with cotter keys. As the pivot moves, the tire presses on the wire, bends the post down, rolls over, and the post springs back up — all without interrupting the fence or the producer.

How many Pivot Posts do I need?
Only one Pivot Post per sprinkler tower is required. Conventional posts can be used in the center of each span.

What is the Pivot Post made of?
The Pivot Post™ includes three key components:

  • A cast aluminum alloy base for strength and longevity
  • An oil-tempered spring return mechanism
  • A 7/8" fiberglass rod, pre-drilled for wire placement

Does the sprinkler tire run over the Pivot Post?
No. The Pivot Post is placed five feet outside of the wheel track. The tire contacts the fence wire, which bends the post down as it rolls over.

Does the system work if the wheel tracks are deep?
Yes. For very deep tracks, simply secure the wire to the lowest hole on the fiberglass rod so the tire can catch it effectively.

What kind of wire works best?
We recommend high-tensile 12½ gauge smooth wire for optimal performance. This type of wire slides cleanly through cotter key fasteners. Barbed wire is not compatible.

Will this system work in rough terrain?
Absolutely. The Pivot Post has proven effective in adverse terrain. One producer noted that after trying “virtually everything,” the Pivot Post finally solved their cross-fencing challenges.

What keeps the wire from catching on the center drive gearbox?
A Wire Diverter is included with the system. Mounted with U-bolts to the tower’s base beam and insulated with poly blocks, it ensures the wire smoothly glides under the gearbox and other obstructions.

What keeps the wire from stretching or breaking when crossed by the sprinkler?
Each wire end uses a spring and ratchet assembly to maintain ideal tension, prevent overstretching, and avoid post damage.

Does the fence ground out when the sprinkler crosses over it?
Modern electric fencing is designed to resist grounding, and electric current typically continues across even a direct ground, allowing the system to stay energized.

Do cattle cross the fence while the sprinkler is passing over it?
No. Electric fences act as a mental barrier. Livestock are highly reluctant to cross, even while the wire is temporarily down, maintaining the integrity of your grazing paddock.
